Word of the Week

A whole range of emotions this week...

The end of maternity leave. Going back to work. New chapters in our lives. Exciting opportunities. Settling in at nursery. Reflecting on what has been.

There's ouly one word for it!

Word of the Week

A busy day out yesterday meant that I'm a bit late to the party.

Effy's eczema has flared up badly this week, I'm not really sure what's triggered it. But in times like this, we up how many times a day we apply cream.

So, this week my word is...

Word of the Week

*shocked noise*
What's up, Effy?
A bug! A buggy bug!
Where?
On the window?
Really, what's it doing?
'Swalking! Flying away!

All the time. Bug obsession.

Bug obsession turned bad on Wednesday night: nightmare about bugs.

Cue screaming toddler. Hiding BEHIND her sisters cot.

SCARY BUGGY!!!!
She demanded to lie down with me under the duvet and clung to me all night.

All of Thursday morning:
Lots of tiny ones spiders. On my pillow. Big one on floor. Not scared. Bit scared.

Even the girls at nursery were told.

On Thursday night and bedtime she was relieved that there were actually no spiders on her pillow.

Phew!

Word of the Week

Good manners cost nothing but mean everything.

Since before Effy could talk, we would "ta" everything. And of course very quickly she cottoned on. Please and thankyou, a long with the sign for please have been her speciality for some time.

But with toddler stroppiness has come a forgetfulness, or her manners have become screaming "MEEEEEEEEEEASE" (please) at the top of her voice in a demanding fashion. Right now I can hear her having a fit downstairs because she's just shouting "MORE MILK! MORE MILK!" and not getting what she wants.

This week I have spent a lot of time explaining and encouraging her to stop, calm down and try "more milk please, daddy" or "Tissue, please" or "watch Peppa Pig please" and such.

I feel like a very polite broken record.

Word of the Week

A busy week preparing for Lowen's baptism on Sunday. Hair cuts (with both children in tow!), things to pick up, outfits to wash, cakes to bake, shopping to do, flowers to order, I haven't really surfaced to breathe!! Very much looking forward to celebrating our little chicken on Sunday with her godparents, friends and family but will also enjoy throwing the to do list for this week away!

Word of the Week

The wet weather has been awful hasn't it? Not the half term we'd all hoped for!

That said, it's been a week of sorting, which is always good.

Is you saw my alphabet photo this week, you'll know I was photographing some inherited china to sell and hopefully make space in my dining room; and sell I did. Some to an old friend, some to a blogging buddy and some to a local lady!

There's also been the stuff for the bin, stuff for charity, some eBay selling... Very cathartic!

I've also sorted plans for Lowen's baptism which is not far away now.

Lowen moved into her sister's bedroom this week, so we've started packing up the crib and the already outgrown and redundant baby stuff and getting it back in the loft, claiming back the spare room.

Effy is enjoying sorting too... By shape, by colour, by animal and talking about it a lot too.

So, my word of the week is...

...and it feels GOOD!

Word of the Week

I'm hesitent to go into the details of the story. But I have lost a vital key and it left me in a nightmare of a situation this week. (Two kids, hot day, no pram, no potty, no formula a long way from home etc).

Said key has still not been found.

Word of the Week

Concentrating on what maternity leave is all about.

Getting the blogging mojo back.

A baby who loves to grin from ear to ear.

Catching up on sleep.

Sunshine, and opportunities to play in it with friends.

Just a small selection of reasons as to why my word of the week is...

Word of the Week

As I write I'm taking a tea break at 2:30am trying finish my coursework sample. It has to be posted tomorrow.

Coursework was last week's word, so this week's word is a completely uninspired urg.

Word of the Week

Like every secondary school teacher, I'm frantically preparing my GCSE coursework to submit to the board. Things haven't quite gone to plan, so I've been in work for two and a half days this week despite being on maternity leave trying to get it sorted, which hasn't left much time for anything else. Hence not yet having a photo for Family Photo Friday...

What a week! I'll be pleased to wave it off for another year...

Word of the Week

Runny noses, crusty noses, itchy noses, bogies, nosplosions, tissues and a bit of vomit for good measure.

My word of the week is...

Thursday, 17 April 2014

Word of the Week

Eczema flare ups, snotty sicky babies, potty training, incomplete to do lists, packing, laundry, toddler tantrums, grey hairs, nap refusal, laundry, more laundry, sorting, tidying, snot, more muslins... I could go on.

Word of the Week

D is home for the Easter holiday having only taken a week off when Lowen was born. The house is in chaos, as I've not been able to run errands, lift stuff or find the time to get things sorted. So at the start of the week we made a huge list of the things that needed to be done so we could work through... It's going well and the house is starting to look more normal... Although sometimes you have to go backwards before going forwards, like getting all of Effy's clothes out of the loft on Wednesday night to find the 0-3 month vests which is helpfully bagged up in their own in a small bag.

We'll be making more lists as we're going away next week and the only way to survive a holiday with a new born it to make a huge list of everything you need.

Lists, lists and lists of lists.

Word of the Week

We're getting back to normal. The visitors have calmed down, I'm feeling good and we're getting used to our new life. Both of us mucking in at bathtime, more poo and more mugs of tea. More chaos, more hectic, a little more head scratching.

I like it like this.

Word of the Week

Something will happen at midnight tonight. I'm not ready for it. I am trying to pretend it's not happening.

Tomorrow I wake up a mother of a two year old. I'm not ok about this. I'm suddenly acutely aware of just how fast they grow up. I'll blink and she'll be a teenager.

I know she'll only continue to get better as a two year old. I know this. But I can't get my head around it.

So this week's word of the week is...

Word of the Week

We've settled in. We're adjusting. Routines are forming and things are working out... We've survived this far. Relationships are growing, strengthening, bonding is taking place, memories are being made.

My home of full of happiness. It doesn't get much better.

Word of the Week

Who knew that two little girls under two could generate SO MUCH WASHING?!

The washing machine, aged 5 1/2, was on its last legs before our family grew... But I can hear it weeping as it spins, very noisily, through its second or third load of the day.

Lowen is quite sicky... Not just into a muslin, nope, everytime I put on clean jeans... And baby poo does manage to leak... Needless to say these loads are unavoidable.

So, the soundtrack to my first week flying solo now D is back at work...
