I'll take a toddler, please.

Don't get me wrong, new borns are divine, and babies are cute, and the wobbly starts to toddlerhood filled me with pride. But I am LOVING being the mother of a toddler and I'd quite happily keep my 21 month old as a 21 month old forever.

Yes, they're scrumptious when they've got too much skin with their milky smiles and tight grip. But she was kiiiiind of boring as a new born, although the house was sparkling... And while I am desperately excited about having my own new born again - and of course I'll take this all back then - I could happily fast forward the first 6 months, retrospectively.

Because I love having a proper conversation with my kid. About nothing particularly exciting, other than having a poo, or what colour the spoon is, or which friends she saw at nursery. I love that she can ask for what she wants and I don't have to guess. I love that she has preferences, and has her own mind and can get on with it with not much help. I love that I can go to the park without nappies and not worry about poonami. Or the pram. And that I can pop anywhere to get her a drink if I forget her beaker.

She is independent. She is brave. She is strong willed. But she is caring, and loving, and full of sunshine. She is great company and such good fun.

But I love the last of the baby features that still remain. That pot belly, the chubby thighs, the sleepy cuddles and the innocence and naivety that a toddler possesses for too short a time.

I can't wait to have two. And I can't wait to strut my double buggy about. But I am also dreading the need to plan a little bit more carefully again, the need to go back to precision timing. I am enjoying the spontaneity of a toddler too much.

It keeps getting better and better. I'll look back when my toddler is starting school and wonder what I was raving about. But if time stopped right now, I wouldn't complain.

7 weeks. The first hints of spring are on their way, I think. My belly feels fit to burst.

All change, please. I think.

Family Photo Friday #2 - 10/01/2014

Back to work inevitably means a little less time for photography in the week... And when there is time, light is somewhat lacking.

However, I was able to catch this moment this week of my big and little book worms sharing some time together before bed. It's also worth documenting that the little girl who detested socks two weeks ago has started demanding a pair at bedtime. Toddlers, eh?

We started small last week, but you've got to start somewhere. I really enjoyed looking at the photos that were linked up and I'm hoping to watch these little people grow in 2014. My favourite this week had to be the selection of photos from my lovely friend Charlotte at The Life of Mummy Rawles, taken at one of my favourite National Trust properties, Bodium Castle. Go and take a peek!

So, onwards!
  • Share a family photo from your week just gone. You can join in weekly, monthly or just whenever you can. It can be a formal portrait or a snap from your phone, something you posed for or something you caught when no one was looking. It could be from a day out, a gathering, an activity at home, it doesn't matter so long as it gives a snap shot of what your family looked like during the week that's just been.
  • Give us a brief explanation of your photo.
  • I'd love it if you could grab the badge to add at the bottom of your post and Tweet about it using #familyphotofriday - my Twitter handle is @oneformybaby12.
  • Pop over to visit at least two other bloggers and see what they've been doing - maybe you can watch their family grow and change too!
  • Leave a comment if you can.
I promise to visit as many of you as I can and I'll pick my favourite photo to share next Friday.

Happy photo-taking and memory-making!

Word of the Week #2

The kids' room is done. And looks glorious.

Tiny clothes are washed.

Baby's bag is packed.

My bag is nearly packed but would do should something happen sooner than expected.

We've done a lot of odd jobs around the house.

I'm ploughing through my to do list at work.

So this weeks word is...

I'll post about the decorating in more detail very soon, but here's a peak at what lies in store...

Doorway

Last week I chose my thirteen favourite photos of 2013 for a blog post. I took in excess of 12,000 photos last year. It was tricky and so many got left out.

Then The Reading Residence and Redpeffer launched The Theme Game... I was excited at the prospect... I love a game. The theme for the week is 'Doorway' and the first thing that came to mind was the number of photographs I took last year including doorways or openings... Including some of my very favourites.

So, here's 2013 in review from a different perspective.

300 Picture Books

The lovely Jocelyn over at The Reading Residence introduced me to this little gem last week and I'm really enjoying taking part. Even my husband has started taking pictures of the books he's read with E to send to me... It really is a project that the whole family can be involved in. The idea is to see just how many books you can read with your kids this year... 300 sounds a lot but I think it might be easier to achieve that you think. Famous last words. I can't get the badge to work today, but you can find more about the challenge here.

So, our reads up to Sunday 5th January, 2014... We started off 2014 with Old MacDonald by David Ellwand and finished our week with a personalised book E received for her birthday... Effy and Daisy's Big Day Out at the Alphabet Zoo.

You can keep up to date on my dedicated Pinterest Board. We're up to 16 so far, but some favourites have included...
